The Opportunity:
WSP is currently seeking a Group Manager to lead our provincial GIS team, part of the Archaeology and GIS business in BC and Yukon. Reporting to the Director of Archaeology & GIS, this is a dual role where you will provide both leadership of a 12-person team and senior level technical expertise to support a variety of GIS projects that range in type, size and complexity.
You will join a growing team of GIS professionals, based throughout BC, with offices in Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Prince George, Rossland and Nelson. As Group Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering our strategic objectives and continue to build and grow our GIS related services.

What you can expect to do here:

- You will support the GIS team and take on management responsibilities including:
- Review of cost estimates and other client deliverables within your assigned delegation of authority (DOA).
- Supporting employees to prioritize and organize their work to meet utilization targets and project commitments.
- Supporting employees with career development and performance, including team mentorship.
- Participate in human resources activities throughout the year, including annual performance and salary reviews, hiring and recruitment processes, and employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Working with the Archaeology & GIS Director and EcoEIA Vice President, support the financial success of the team by monitoring financial results and working to implement changes or improvements to achieve desired financial results.
- Communicate company policies and mandates as provided by leadership or elsewhere to the GIS team and oversee their application if necessary.
- Foster collaboration across the BC GIS team, as well as with other GIS teams nationally and continue to develop relationships with other WSP Business Lines and sectors.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to GIS team members individually and collectively.
- Participate in business development activities to support growth of the GIS team and business and strengthen client relationships.
- Support the GIS team in spatial analysis, model development and data management.
- Work in various fields including archaeology, biological environmental sciences, contaminated sites, geotechnical engineering and mining.
- Lead the GIS team with confidence to deliver innovative solutions with quality and technical excellence.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- A Degree or Advanced Diploma in Geography, GIS, Biology, Social Sciences, or a combination of demonstrated GIS, statistical analysis, experience, or quantitative ecology and post-secondary education.
- 10 years of experience or the equivalent working in a consulting environment with a focus on GIS.
- You are a self-motivated leader with excellent inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
- A proven track record of successful business development, and of fostering client relationships.
- Strong demonstration of health and safety leadership.
- Commitment to technical excellence.
- Strategic and business planning experience.
- Financial, forecasting and budgeting experience.
- Adaptability and flexibility to prioritize and manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change and the ability to build partnerships across disciplines and areas of expertise.
Compensation:
Salary range (in British Columbia): $99,500 – $136,800
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
