Position Summary

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Northern Health patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at NH, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Clinical Resource Nurse provides leadership in the delivery of care activities in defined areas of clinical expertise. Supervises and provides work direction to staff. Provides input to Program Manager or designate regarding staffing coverage and provides clinical leadership, guidance, and support to team members. Acts as a clinical resource for nurses, nursing students and the interdisciplinary team. Assists staff in providing quality care and related quality assurance requirements for an identified patient population by providing information based on theory/practice, assessing clinical/technical skills, and participating in the direct patient care as appropriate, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days – 07:00 to 15:00, 07:30 to 15:30, 08:00 to 16:00, 08:30 to 16:30
University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is the largest Acute Care facility within the Northern Health region, and a hub for specialized health services. It’s also a teaching hospital:
• Provides undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program, run by the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia.

Qualfications
• Baccalaureate in Nursing, plus 5 (five) years recent clinical experience in a related program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• CPR level C and/or Code Management.
• Advanced preparation and/or certification in the Clinical Specialty area as needed.

• Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using oral, written and computer communication means.
• Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
• Teaching: Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Assessment & Intervention: Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to operate related equipment including proven ability to utilize computer technology.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
