The Role
In the role of Correctional Instructor, Maintenance, you’ll provide a variety of hands-on, skills-based instruction to inmates related to basic life skills including topics such as, budgeting and money management, problem solving and decision making, critical thinking, communication, stress management, health and nutrition, meal planning and preparation, parenting, and, home/house management. This is a key role that delivers skill building programs to help inmates strengthen personal skills and provide an environment for individual growth. Your guidance will ensure the safety, care, and security of inmates during each session, supporting them in building practical skills that contribute to successful reintegration into the community. This position offers a chance to make a meaningful difference within a progressive organization focused on safety and skill-building.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Experience in the use and repair of tools and equipment related to the program such as gardening tools, small appliances, hand power tools etc
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • English 12 with a final grade of 70% or equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years experience preparing food in a restaurant or food preparation industry
  • Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA 1) as endorsed by WorkSafe BC
  • Successful completion of the Correctional Officer Physical Abilities Test (COPAT)
  • Successful completion of enhanced security screening
  • Successful completion of medical assessment
  • Successful completion of employer sponsored Security Officer Training

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Correctional Officer or equivalent
  • Experience in instructing adult learners and organizing the work of others
  • Experience in a vocational setting
  • Experience with computer and communication technology
  • WHMIS certified
  • Valid BC Class 4 Driver’s License
  • Food safe certification
