Job Summary

The Team
The North Shore Intake Team is a tight-knit group of six child protection workers serving North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Bowen Island. Our team is energetic, compassionate, and dedicated to ensuring children and youth are safe, while also building community connections and supporting Indigenous families alongside səlilwətał (Tsleil-Waututh), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) peoples. Located near the scenic Lonsdale Quay with stunning views of Vancouver Harbour, we share our space with a larger intake, guardianship, and family services team, creating a supportive environment where experience, teamwork, and after-work fun go hand-in-han d.

The Role
As a Social Work Assistant, you’ll play a hands-on role in supporting child protection efforts on the North Shore. From supervising family visits and transporting children to helping coordinate meetings and taking notes during family interviews, you’ll provide essential support to Social Workers and the Team Leader. This role brings variety each day and offers a unique chance to learn more about child protection work, making it an ideal stepping stone if you’re interested in advancing within the field.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary School Graduation or Equivalent AND one of the following:
    • 2 years of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 1 year or more of related work experience; OR
    • 1 year of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 2 years or more of related work experience; OR
    • Minimum of 3 years or more of related work experience.
    • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience using the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case Management (ICM) and/or Management Information Systems (MIS) computer systems.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
