Looking for occasional hours this winter? Join our VIU snow removal crew and help keep the campus safe during snowy mornings! Ideal for early risers, this role offers on-call shifts that could start as early as 2:00 am after snowfall.
In this casual role, you will ensure the campus community’s safety by clearing snow and de-icing roadways, walkways, and stairs. You will work under the supervision of a Zone Captain and be assigned a section. The snow removal crew works in a team to clear areas in priority order.
VIU’s severe weather procedures aim to communicate closures by 6:30am. Therefore, work is required to begin between the hours of 2:00 am to 5:00 am. Duties are performed outdoors in winter weather conditions.
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education completion
- Previous experience operating basic hand tools and equipment such as a snow blower or salt spreader
- Physical ability to perform continuous moderate physical activity and intermittent periods of heavy lifting.
- Ability to work in winter weather conditions
Snow crew wear their own weather-appropriate clothing and boots.
