Job Summary

The Team
The Development Services team is a tight-knit group of three experts responsible for reviewing development proposals in the Ministry’s jurisdiction of Service Areas 26 and 27 in the Northern Region. This established team collaborates closely with Provincial Approving Officers, Operations, Administrative staff, Municipal teams, Engineering groups, and local First Nations to ensure public interests and safety are central to all decisions. Known for their high attention to detail and dedication to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment, this team values diverse perspectives as they make meaningful, community-centered impacts.

The Role
As a Development Technician, you’ll be the first point of contact, sharing essential development information with stakeholders and the public. This role lets you apply legislation practically while strengthening connections with local governments, regional districts, and First Nations. It’s a great entry-level opportunity with room to grow, offering the chance to work closely with diverse teams-engineering, legal, traffic safety, and more-and contribute to impactful statutory decisions and on-site inspections across the district.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Entry (Junior) STO 15 Level

  • Diploma or degree in one of the following educational streams: Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Geology, Geoscience, Geotech, Highway Construction, Materials Engineering, Mining Engineering Project Management, Survey, Transportation Engineering, Urban Land Planning/Development or other related fields of study; OR
  • Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Full Working (Senior) STO 18 Level

  • Degree from an Institute of Technology in a related discipline and a minimum 1 year of related experience; OR
  • Diploma from an Institute of Technology in a related discipline and a minimum 3 years of related experience; OR
  • Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related experience must include at least one of the following:

  • Experience in the area of land use planning and development.
  • Experience providing project management services for multiple assigned projects.
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships, with internal and external stakeholders.

PROVISO

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
