Training Manager

Job Purpose: The Training Manager, under the supervision of the General Manager Trip Delivery, will o versee classroom and/or on-the-road instruction to new hire candidates and incumbent employees in all aspects of a vehicle operator
Major Responsibilities:
- Promotes Safety as a core value at all times. Communicates and positively promotes the Company vision, values and culture
- Manages all aspects of curriculum design, training implementation, and documentation for new and existing HandyDART Drivers. Approves trainees and drivers to pass/fail training
- Develops and delivers regular and specialized training programs throughout the organization. This includes Remedial (Post Incident) and high interest driver training, courses for safety sensitive incidents or initiatives, and any other training as required
- Tracks all training within the organization, including driver refresher training, WHMIS, forklift, and first aid training. Organizes refreshers or recertification as required
- Provides Behind the Wheel training for Utility Workers, Mechanics and Road supervisors
- Assumes first line supervision of training instructors including hiring, training, managing and directing work, disciplining, handling complaints and grievances. Ensures company policies and procedures are followed. Administers the collective agreement
- Drives employee engagement and recognition. Coaches, trains and mentors employees. Recommends and disciplines drivers and trainers as required
- Develops training programs that meet the specific needs of employees that are returning to work, or require remedial or refresher training. Provides appropriate training and assesses individual’s performance
- Assesses trainability of applicants by discussing positions, requirements and conducting demonstration reviews. Instructs applicants in the operation of the bus and assesses driving skills. Evaluates and makes recommendations on trainee suitability to perform driving and customer service duties
- Oversees Trainabilities for the pre-qualification process
- Creates and manages any training trackers or reports required for First Transit or the customer
- Oversees and maintains ICBC Class 4 Unresricted Commercial Licensing program
- Stays current with all relevant legislative requirements related to the position to ensure compliance. This includes knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act, OH&S regulations, ICBC commercial operator requirements, and any other applicable legislation
- Performs other related duties as required
Minimum Education & Certifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum license class – unrestricted class 4
Experience & Skills Required:
- Minimum three years of recent professional driving experience
- Excellent driving record
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Has effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Remains calm under pressure
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Good verbal, written and relational communication skills, with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials and general public
- Knowledge of federal and provincial rules and regulations regarding licensing, defensive driving, safety and environmental issues
- 3 years training experience preferred
- Instructor Diploma or Certificate preferred
- Knowledge of project specific vehicles, components and communications systems preferred
- Knowledge of service area preferred
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Incumbent must be able to move about the office and in the surrounding company facility outside the office (e.g., bus parking lot); utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone
- Must be able to drive travel between Depots to deliver training in multiple locations.
- Physical activities include including the use of accessible lift devices, kneeling, bending, reaching overhead, securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
