The Team
T
he Litigation Group is an established team of around 180 professionals who conduct litigation and provide legal advice to all ministries of the government, Cabinet, and certain public agencies. We appear on behalf of the province at all levels of court and before certain administrative tribunals and are responsible for all aspects of the preparation and conduct of mediations, trials, and other hearings. Our diverse team operates out of Vancouver and Victoria, working closely together to navigate the fast-paced world of legal challenges. The Role
The Litigation Group is hiring for the role of a Senior Legal Assistant (AO 15), under the supervision of a Deputy Supervisor. This position works with members of the Executive Coordination Team (“ECT”) who are responsible for file intake for the Legal Services Branch, assessment, and co-ordination of file assignment as well as reporting for the Litigation Group and Crown Proceeding Act fiscal year end responsibilities for the Legal Services Branch. This position provides support to the ECT and to legal counsel, and is responsible for performing a variety of legal services with a high degree of independence and under limited supervision. The work is carried out in a high-profile and fast-paced office in which flexibility, teamwork, tact, diplomacy, communication and organization are essential for the efficient, accurate, successful and timely completion of responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent and completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant program from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent (within the last five (5) years) experience in a legal office environment.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience with file intake processes for the Legal Services Branch.
  • Experience with the coordination of file assessment and file assignment processes in the Legal Services Branch.
  • Experience drafting correspondence and properly dealing with physical documents in a legal office setting.
  • Experience working in a large team where cooperation and individual initiative are essential.
  • Experience in a litigation environment.
  • Experience working on litigation files.
  • Experience with the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to one (1) day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
