The Payment Review and Compliance department of WorkSafeBC is looking for a Co-op Student, Payment Review and Compliance to join our team to assist in payment analysis and reviewing payment security reports.

If you are interested in applying your talents and knowledge and gaining valuable experience to support worker health and safety, we want to hear from you. This is an eight-month temporary opportunity start in January 2025.

Where you’ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you’ll work primarily from your B.C. home and be on-site at a minimum of once per week in our Richmond office.

What you’ll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During Week 1, you’ll engage in e-training modules and partner with a mentor to gain insights into your role through shadowing. You’ll be introduced to the larger team and learn about the department’s functions and their impact.

Additionally, you’ll support business process improvement initiatives aimed at streamlining operations, allowing you to contribute meaningfully from the start. Welcome aboard!

  • Review payment security reports to identify errors and potential fraud
  • Assist in payment analysis including detection of potential frauds and overpayments
  • Assist in the Pension Monitoring and Declaration process which includes the creation of routine letters, and handling calls with pension/allowance recipients
  • Support professional and administrative ad-hoc tasks related to the needs of the team such as event planning or meeting preparation

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, while learning tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrate prioritization and multi-tasking skills
  • Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
  • Work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn multiple computer programs

Your background and experience

  • Enrolled in a Business Administration & Finance programs
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
  • Previous experience in an analytical/analyst co-op role or relevant work experience in an office environment is an asset
  • Previous customer service experience is an asset

  • Confirm you’re a registered student at a post-secondary institution and is participating in a work integrated learning program
  • Consent to a criminal record check and successfully meet the criminal record check clearance
