Overview

The Enterprise Development and Operations (EDO) department of WorkSafeBC is looking for one highly motivated, dynamic, innovative Co-op student, Database to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.

The student will assist the Cloud Data Services team within EDO department to ensure the integrity of our databases and help resolve complex technical database problems encountered by the database administrators and developers. You will be part of a team that is instrumental in ensuring data is available and secure for users across our organization.

This is an eight-month temporary opportunity starting in January 2025.

Where you’ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you’ll work primarily from your B.C. home and at a minimum of once per month in our Richmond office.

What you’ll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program as well as partner with a work buddy to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team’s vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization’s mandate. You will also work through different safety and security courses as part of the WorkSafeBC e-learning modules.

  • Assist in the maintenance, configuration and support of database instances.
  • Collaborate and support the team by contributing to operations and functions of the Database Management Systems.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, plan and execute tasks in collaboration with other team members and service providers.

Your experience and educational background:

  • Currently a final year student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in math, statistics, computer science, or in a related program.
  • Experience with SQL server is required.
  • Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment is preferred.

  • Confirm you’re a registered student at a post-secondary institution and is participating in a work integrated learning program
