Job Summary

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team

At BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Cariboo-Chilcotin, the Business Administration Team is a close-knit, established team of eight that collaborates to support a variety of essential functions across the organization. Working alongside the Business Manager, Business Administrators, and a Program Assistant, you’ll contribute to impactful work that spans Indigenous Relations, Planning, Timber Development, Silviculture, and Forest Road Engineering. The Role

As a Business Analyst at BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Cariboo-Chilcotin, you’ll play a key role in supporting sustainable forest management and contributing to British Columbia’s economic growth. You will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, supporting business and operational plans, and implementing financial tracking systems. This role allows you to actively support reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and the safety of the forest sector while working in a diverse and inclusive environment that values work-life balance, professional development, and career growth. Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, business or finance, equivalent to two years of a recognized professional program to meet position requirements.
  • Minimum five years of directly related experience. Related experience means:
    • The application of government finance and administration policies and processes, legislative acts and regulations, reporting, systems and controls including managing financial operations and managing financial policy.
    • Developing and integrating business plans and operational budgets, conducting financial forecasts and analysis in support of budget evaluation processes.
    • Preparing and analysing financial statements, transactions and reporting to provide accurate and timely financial management.
    • Proficiency in developing and implementing tracking and monitoring systems; generating financial spreadsheets, working documents and reports.
    • Analyzing trends, cost/benefit, and historic performance,OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience such as seven or more years of related experience in finance, budgeting and accounting.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a number days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
