Reports to the Mechanic Foreman and maintains and repairs buses, vehicles, grounds equipment and generators.

POSTING DETAILS

  • Position – Mechanic
  • Start Date – As soon as possible
  • End Date – 4/Jan/2025. End date may change.
  • Schedule – Term. 40 hours/week.
  • Location(s) – Varied

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains and repairs all buses, vehicles, grounds equipment and generators.
  • Maintains preventative maintenance program according to Ministry of Transportation requirements.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs alternate fuel systems.
  • Orders parts, equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Road tests vehicles.
  • Acts as a relief bus driver in emergency situations.
  • Operates tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Respond to emergency situations as requested.
  • Inspects (daily) and operates a service vehicle.
  • Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Apprenticeship and/or Trades Qualification Certificate (Commercial Transport Vehicle Repairs or Automotive Mechanical Repairs).
  • Automotive (Propane) Gas Fitters Ticket.
  • Class 2 B.C. Driver’s License, including Air Brake endorsement
  • One-year related experience.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance of district vehicles, equipment and generators.
  • Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, regulations, methods, tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy and tact in the explanation and exchange of information.
  • Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties
