Job Summary

The Team
The Telecommunications and Radio Section is dedicated to providing expert communication services that keep our province connected and informed. Our diverse team is responsible for designing and maintaining essential radio networks and systems that support public safety and road management.

The Role
As the Radio Systems Manager, reporting to the Senior Manager of Avalanche, Weather, and Radio Telecommunications, you will oversee the daily operations of a skilled team responsible for managing radio and communication systems across the province, ensuring that all systems-from radio repeaters to emergency communication networks-are maintained, updated, and fully operational. Day-to-day, you’ll provide leadership to a team of diverse professionals in troubleshooting issues, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations. Your work will ensure that over 46,000 km of highways and side roads are connected, keeping communities safe and informed.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirement
s

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (P.Eng) or equivalent Post Secondary Degree and two (2) years of related experience, OR
  • A Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics or an equivalent field (Information Technology or Computer Sciences are NOT accepted as equivalents) and four (4) years of related experience, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and related experience may be considered.

Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience working with VHF, UHF, and telephone interface systems and various associated communications, power and network architectures.
  • Experience building and maintaining productive relationships, and effectively negotiating, and consulting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with conflict resolution between staff or co-workers negotiating different objectives, opinions or styles.
  • Experience adapting to changing priorities while leading a diverse work group in multiple projects, within time/resource constraints in response to emergent issues.
  • Experience directly supervising people and managing operational budgets.
  • Experience training technical and/or professional staff in the radio, wireless and data communication field.
  • Experience with all of the following:
    • Communications networks including spread spectrum;
    • Arduino module design;
    • Radio control systems and instrumentation;
    • RoIP networks;
    • VHF and UHF radio systems;
    • Telephone interconnect systems.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • More than 2 years related experience in the radio and telecommunications field.
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an Engineer in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or an Applied Electronics Technologist with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC).
