Job Summary

The Team
The Indigenous Relations Liaison will be part of the BC Timber Sales Seaward-tlasta Indigenous Relations Team, a collaborative and diverse group dedicated to building strong partnerships with Indigenous Peoples across the Business Area. The business area overlaps 23 First Nations groups on Vancouver Island and the Coastal Mainland. Our team is committed to fostering inclusive and respectful relationships that honor Indigenous Rights and Title. You’ll work closely with both BCTS staff and Indigenous communities to ensure meaningful engagement and promote equitable practices in all project decisions. The Role
In this role, you’ll be responsible for building strong, lasting relationships with local Indigenous communities while leading consultation activities that meet both legal and business obligations. You will balance the business goals of BCTS with Indigenous interests and values, ensuring meaningful engagement. As part of the Indigenous Relations team, you’ll leverage your cultural agility and ability to navigate complex issues, contributing to BCTS’ reconciliation efforts in a meaningful and impactful way. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as professional (i.e. Registered Professional Forester) with the British Columbia association as required by the specialty area, and 2 years of experience related to natural resource or Indigenous Peoples relationship management. Registered Forest Technologist do not qualify as professionals under this classification series.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience with contract management.
  • Experience or education in forestry or natural resource management.
  • Experience or education related to Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.

Provisos:

  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours with limited notice, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and/or watercraft.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement and successfully completed probation period.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Seaward-tlasta Business Area (Port McNeill).
