Job Summary

The Team
Our Spatial Inventory Team is a small, highly skilled group of registered professionals, all certified in VRI Photo Interpretation. We focus on developing the Vegetation Resources Inventory (VRI) Phase I Spatial Inventory, collaborating closely with our Ground Sampling and Remote Sensing teams, and other agencies. The work we do directly impacts forest management decisions, and we value a collaborative, inclusive environment where diverse perspectives contribute to our shared goals.

The Role
As part of the Spatial Inventory Team, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate and up-to-date forest inventory data, which is vital for informed decision-making in managing BC’s natural resources. You’ll support the Spatial Inventory Team by ensuring the quality and accuracy of forest inventory data, essential for responsible resource management across BC. Depending on your level, you may also manage contracts and work closely with existing staff to maintain high standards in our projects. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

GRID 21 AND 24:

• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
• Technical school diploma in forestry (or related program) and a minimum of three years of operational field experience in forest mensuration (e.g. forest inventory, timber cruising, growth and yield) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience reading and interpreting topographical maps, satellite imagery, and aerial photographs.
• Experience with geospatial tools or applications such as ESRI ArcGIS or ArcView for capturing, manipulating, and displaying resource information and developing field access maps.
• Experience using and maintaining field equipment such as GPS, laser measurement tools, and electronic field data recorders.
• Experience accurately and consistently conducting detailed reviews of data quality and identifying, investigating, and resolving data issues.
• Experience in planning, managing and undertaking forest inventory fieldwork, timber cruising or similar forest mensuration projects.
• Experience in forest inventory photo interpretation.
• Experience with current computer applications such as MS Office Suite applications for word processing, spreadsheet and database development, and electronic mail functions.

• Experience managing projects and/or project components.

About this Position:
Developmental Opportunity – Applicants will be appointed to the appropriate classification level based on their qualifications. Developmental level (Grid 21) can only be in Victoria or Prince George.
The developmental position has full time on-site requirements.
