Job Summary

The Team
Join our Engineering Team, a dedicated group responsible for maintaining and monitoring roads and major access structures within our business area. The team also constructs and deactivates roads throughout the region, ensuring our forest service roads are safe and environmentally compliant. Comprised of eight staff members, including five Engineering Technologists and two Forest Technologists, all reporting to the Engineering Officer, our established team works collaboratively with the Timber Development, Planning, and Silviculture Teams. The Role
As an Engineering Technologist, you will manage contractors to ensure roads and access structures are properly monitored and maintained. Your work will directly impact the safety of our network of Forest Service Roads for all users. This position offers a unique opportunity within the government to engage in hands-on, operational activities across a large area of Northern BC. Applicants will be inspired by the chance to manage multiple large-scale construction projects and gain invaluable field experience.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in forest engineering, forest management or equivalent related field, plus three (3) years of experience in directly related operational field forestry activities, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience such as five (5) years of experience in one (1) or more area of operational field forestry activities.

Operational field forestry activities include the following:

    • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
    • Cut-block development
    • Forest road engineering
    • Timber tenure development and administration
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in contract or financial administration.
  • Experience in forest road engineering such as road planning, construction, maintenance, and deactivation.

About this Position:
This position is located in Mackenzie.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies.

You must be registered as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with FPBC, or able to transfer a current RFT (or related) membership to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants who do not meet the RFT requirement may be considered at a lower classification, subject to having their Trainee Forest Technologist (TFT), Allied Science Trainee Forest Technologist (ASTFT), or related designation and are eligible to achieve their RFT (or greater) designation. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
