Job Summary

The Team
Join our established Land and Resource Team at the Ministry of Forests where a skilled group of GIS specialists and Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR) staff actively protect communities from wildfires. This diverse team, comprising 2 GIS staff, 3 Land and Resource Coordinators, 1 Land and Resource Specialist, and 1 Contract Administrator, have been together for approximately six years. They support district and British Columbia Timber Sales (BCTS) staff with GIS-related tasks and coordinate essential wildfire risk reduction projects on public lands adjacent to communities in the Thompson/Okanagan/Shuswap region. This is a dynamic, diverse and skilled team working together to ensure a safer environment for everyone. We guarantee you will not be bored!

The Role:
As a Land and Resource Coordinator at the Ministry of Forests, you will manage the development and completion of Fuel Management Prescriptions for Wildfire Risk Reduction Projects. This role offers excellent opportunities for experience in collaborating with First Nations communities, contract procurement, and budget management. Your work will significantly reduce fire hazards, providing communities with a sense of security and enhancing collaboration with First Nations in fire management and land stewardship. This is a unique opportunity to join a diverse and dynamic team, make a meaningful impact on fire and forest management, and engage in a mix of energizing fieldwork and office duties.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a resource management related field.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders and leading consultation sessions.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.

Preferences

  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience/knowledge in wildfire management practices.
  • Experience in budget management and contract and financial administration.
  • Experience or knowledge implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
