Vancouver Island University accepts applications for two regular part-time roles as Starbucks Barista/Cashier.

In this role, you will contribute to the effective operation of the VIU Starbucks store and promote the sale of products and services. Starbucks standards of quality and customer service will be upheld at all times. This is a fast-paced, high-volume operation.

The Barista Cashier will prepare and serve food products including specialty drinks, hot sandwiches, pastries, cold drinks, snacks ensuring quality standards are maintained. The incumbent assists in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the day-to-day operations that meets or exceeds FoodSafe and health authority standards. The Barista Cashier will operate the POS system and related equipment to process sales in a fast and accurate manner. Process all forms of payment including cash, credit, debit, gift cards, and Starbucks Cards. Balance cash drawer at the end of shifts. Count and receive merchandise. Identify out of stock or low stock product. Stock shelves, and set up merchandising programs as required. Develop and maintain excellent product knowledge by gaining familiarity with products and product lines. Effectively communicate between shifts to ensure a smooth transition of operations. Participate in the opening and closing procedures. Participate in year-end inventory counts.

Answer customer enquiries and concerns escalating to the Supervisor when appropriate. Act as an ambassador for Ancillary Services on campus. Adhere to the Starbucks dress code and personal appearance guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 completion, current FoodSafe I, and minimum one year of experience in a food services.
  •  A combination of education and experience may be considered.
