Job Summary

The Team
The Integrated Services team is a well established but evolving team including Child Protection workers, Child Youth & Family Support Workers and SPO assistants housed in the Vanderhoof office. This office in central to BC’s Northern communities, and provides the opportunity for close collaboration with Child and Youth with Support Needs, Youth Justice, and other teams supporting children, youth, and families. This team also works closely with Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies and First Nations in the surrounding communities. Staff members benefit from a smaller team environment by getting the opportunity to learn across lines of work and are encouraged to grow in their careers.

The Role
As the Team Leader, you will lead a team of Child Protection Workers. Child Youth & Family Support Workers, and SPO assistants. This important role ensures that services are provided to protect the safety and well being of children and youth in Vanderhoof and the surrounding communities. You will provide regular clinical supervision to team members, assign cases, and support the learning and development of your staff. The Team Leader role also works to establish relationships with community partners to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • At least 2 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.

2. Expanded Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience and at least 2 years of job-specific work experience OR At least 3 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Currently hold or be immediately Eligible for C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working as Child Protection Worker.
  • Experience supervising Child Protection Workers.

Please note:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

This temporary posting is not limited to the geographic area. For applicants located outside of the geographic area mileage and meal allowances may be available (Travel Status).

Vanderhoof is home to the Kenney Dam and sits on the Nechako River, in the flat spot between the BC coastline and the Rocky Mountain Range. Vanderhoof hosts events all year long, including tournaments for hockey and golf.
