Job Summary

The Team
The Short Term Rental Registry Team is a small, established group of professionals dedicated to developing an application for short-term rental hosts and platforms in British Columbia. With 3 developers, a Business Analyst, a Product Owner, and a Scrum Master, the team collaborates closely with BC Registries and the Ministry of Housing to align with provincial regulations and housing policy objectives. The team’s work is crucial to ensuring compliance with the Short-Term Rental Accommodations Act, helping to return short-term rental units to the long-term housing market. They offer a collaborative and supportive environment, where innovation and continuous improvement are highly valued, providing an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on housing availability in British Columbia.

The Role
As a Site Reliability Specialist, you’ll ensure the reliability and performance of the Short Term Rental Registry application, playing a key part in supporting the Ministry of Housing’s regulatory efforts. You’ll collaborate with development teams to design scalable infrastructure, implement monitoring solutions, and automate tasks to increase efficiency. Your work will directly impact the seamless operation of the registry, making it easier for short-term rental hosts to comply with new regulations and contribute to the availability of long-term rental housing in British Columbia. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related field. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
    Note: Related education fields may include Data Science, Dev Ops, GIS, IT, statistics, mathematics, web development or other relevant specialty education as designated by program requirements.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment principles.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience analyzing and troubleshooting systems, monitoring availability, and practicing complete view of system health, maintenance, and reliability.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with API development and integration and continuous development environments.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with pipeline management with tools like Jenkins and similar continuous integration technologies.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with version control technologies such as subversion and Git and development in an open-source environment.
  • Experience with providing guidance and implementing infrastructure solution to reduce the workload by automation.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience working in an agile development environment with User Experience (UX) teams, designers and developers to iteratively create or improve digital products and services from conception to production.
  • Experience working with metrics and monitoring technology like: Splunk, Promethus, Graphana, Sysdig, Cerebus, Kraken, and Matomo.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems internals (e.g. filesystems, system calls), and with networking (e.g. routing, ESDN) or cloud systems.
  • Experience of J2EE Web development and applications, including Spring Framework, Hibernate, Oracle, Postgres and Wildfly.

About this Position:
Remote work is allowed, this position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
