Job Summary

The Team
The Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations, will join the established Priorities Advancement and Indigenous Relations Branch, a collaborative and supportive team dedicated to advancing reconciliation and fostering sustainability within BC’s mining sector. This team is composed of experienced professionals, including a Director of Indigenous Relations, Senior Negotiation Leads, and Indigenous Relations Advisors, all working together to provide strategic solutions and support government-to-government agreement implementation. They also collaborate with the Regional Operations Branch, including Mines Inspectors, to ensure that mining practices are environmentally sustainable. The work of this team is vital in shaping a thriving, inclusive future for the province’s mining industry.

The Role
As a Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations, you will be instrumental in ensuring that First Nation consultations on proposed mining authorizations are conducted in a way that honours the Crown’s commitments. You’ll lead and participate in key meetings with First Nations, assist with agreement negotiations, and provide guidance on consultation procedures to proponents and staff. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful reconciliation, support the competitiveness of B.C.’s mining sector, and inspire positive change in sustainable practices, all while helping to build a more inclusive and environmentally responsible province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience

  • Degree in a resource management field plus a minimum of three (3) years of related experience; OR,
  • Diploma in a resource management field plus a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Related Experience must include a combination of all of the following:
    • Experience in participating in consultation/negotiations with First Nations.
    • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
    • Experience in policy development and/or implementation.
  • Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants:

  • Who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit)

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation offices: Smithers, Prince George, Kamloops, Cranbrook, Victoria or Vancouver.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
