Job Summary

The Team
Join the Kamloops Fire Centre (KFC) Operations team, a cohesive group dedicated to wildfire response, working closely with other specialists and Incident Command System (ICS) functions across the province. This role offers a chance to provide strong leadership and contribute directly to impactful fire management efforts in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

The Role
This role provides crucial oversight and leadership to the Incident Command System (ICS) roles at the Kamloops Fire Centre, ensuring seamless delivery of planning functions for wildfire response. Your work will directly impact the safety and well-being of communities, and you’ll have the opportunity to develop professionally while supporting other ICS functions. This position also offers valuable experience working with other government areas, such as Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, making it an exciting opportunity for those looking to grow their careers in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in a field related to forestry or resource management plus one (1) year related experience; OR
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry or resource management, plus three (3) years related experience; OR
  • Grade 12 or equivalent (GED) plus five (5) years of related,experience ;OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; AND
  • Supervisory experience

Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to emergency response or natural resource management.

Preference statements

  • Incident Commander 4 or higher certification.
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience

Provisos /Willingness statements

  • Valid Class 5 BC driver license or equivalent.
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To be assigned or participate to Incident Command System positions as required.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
