Position Summary
Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed permanent part time Tele-Care Office Assistant to support the Primary & Community Care department.

In accordance with Northern Health’s vision of an idealized system of services where people and their families receive primary care services in Primary Care Homes supported by interprofessional teams, the Tele-Care Office Assistant (TOA) functions as a member of the Tele-Care interprofessional team. As an integral member of the team, the Tele-Care Office Assistant works to support providers and the Tele-Care Interprofessional Team in the delivery of safe, efficient, and quality Primary Services through the use of virtual support services. The Tele-Care Office Assistant provides both operational and administrative support at the virtual Tele-Care clinic setting in accordance with Northern Health policies and procedures. The Tele-Care Office Assistant is responsible for workspace management in MOIS. The TOA primarily cleans up the formatting and sends consultations to primary care providers throughout the Northern Health region and occasionally beyond this region; checks and sends lab requisitions to the various testing locations throughout Northern Health after determining what location is closest to the patient; assists with booking population public health/MHO requests; follows up with questions about lab requisitions and test results from patients/providers/testing locations; sends sick notes to patients and assists the patients with retrieving their secured messages; assists as needed with double checking that all calls are finished or moved to the next provider, as needed. The TOA should also check to ensure that consistency is maintained for appointment bookings so that appointments display on the correct date and daybook and are scheduled or re-scheduled as appropriate.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days – 08:00 to 16:30, Rotating

Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre provides medical service to Old Masset, Port Clements and surrounding areas. The hospital and health centre has 4 Acute Care beds, 1 Palliative Care bed, 4 Long-term Care beds and a 4 unit assisted living complex. Some services provided at the hospital:
• Emergency
• Laboratory
• Diagnostic Imaging
• Pharmacy
• Chronic Disease Management
• Physiotherapy
• Speech and Language therapy
• Mental Health and Substance Use service
• Home and Community Care and Home Support services
• Visiting specialists in Pediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Respirology, Rheumatology, Urology and Ophthalmology
• Video conferencing capabilities with specialists or physicians in other areas Public Health provides many services to the community. Some of these services include:
• Harm reduction services
• TB testing
• Prenatal services with pregnancy registry
• Kindergarten screening and school immunizations
• Birth control, pap tests, STI testing

Masset is situated along the shoreline of Masset Sound on Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, and is the largest village on the island. Major industries are logging, fishing and tourism. Masset provides services for a larger rural area with a population of 1,000 local residents and services a surrounding area of 2,300 including Tow Hill (unincorporated) and Old Masset (IR). incorporated in 1961, the Village of Masset (pop. 1,000) is the oldest of the island’s municipalities. Qualfications
• Grade 12.
• Graduation from an Office Assistant Course from an accredited Community College plus two years recent, related experience in a health care setting.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Clinical background

• Demonstrated proficiency in computer word processing, spreadsheet applications, and specialized clinical information systems.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
