Job Summary

The Team
The Mapping Services team, part of the Data Systems and Services branch, is a welcoming and collaborative group dedicated to delivering tools that enable the visualization and analysis of geospatial data. Our diverse team of seven works closely with colleagues from various disciplines, including technical experts, business analysts, and UX designers. As members of the DevOps Chapter, we actively contribute to a community that fosters knowledge sharing and continuous learning. The work we do plays a crucial role in supporting ministries, agencies, and the public, ensuring that geospatial data is accessible and supports informed decision-making. We value adaptability, a commitment to client service, and a shared sense of humor.

The Role
As a technical team member, this role will participate in planning and implementing the team’s technical operational support processes, infrastructure projects, automating routine administrative tasks, and ongoing maintenance and updates to services and applications. This will be accomplished with guidance and mentorship from senior staff within the branch and the DevOps chapter.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer science related field and 1-year of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in a computer science related field and 2 years related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a computer science related field and 3 years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience in assessing customer requirements, developing, and implementing technical and business solutions.
  • Experience and/or training using scripting/programming languages such as Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or Go.
  • Experience deploying, configuring and maintaining business applications and/or open source tools.
  • Experience using modern version control systems including Git and Github.Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience and/or training using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and spatial data formats and management.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment with User Experience (UX)/Service Designer teams, Software Developers, and Scrum Masters to iteratively create or improve digital products and services from conception to production.
