About the Opportunity

Gitxaala Nation is looking for full-time Accounts Payable Clerks based in Prince Rupert, BC.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in providing financial and administrative support by maintaining accounting duties involving invoices and bills of the Nation.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for managing accounts payable activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial policies, and supporting the overall financial operations of the Gitxaala Nation.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and processing invoices and bills
  • Assisting in the reconciliation of accounts
  • Paying or receiving payments from vendors and customers
  • Performing financial activities such as journal entries, coding, and entering invoices
  • Posting and reconciling batches and updating ledgers
  • Processing outgoing payments in compliance with financial policies
  • Verifying accuracy of data sources and supporting others in the same
  • Establishing and fostering strong working relationships within and external to the Nation
  • Handling inquiries and requests for information in a professional manner
  • Travelling in-community to the island of Kitkatla as required

About You

To qualify, you will possess accounting training or certification and an equivalent combination of training and experience, with 2 years’ experience in accounts payable or a relevant role and working knowledge of accounting software/systems including Sage 300 and AIS. You must also be able and willing to travel in-community to the island of Kitkatla as required.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Administrative Assistant Diploma (asset)
  • Expertise in preparing various materials and reports using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) 
  • Understanding of financial compliance, rules, laws, procedures, and policies
  • Experience with privacy legislation and policies
  • Ability to understand and promote Gitxaala Nation’s culture, language, and values, including the Sm’algyax culture
  • Familiarity with industry-specific legislation, best practices, and privacy policies
  • Capability to work with vulnerable persons
