Job Summary
The Team
The Northeast Region First Nations Relations team plays a crucial role in supporting natural resource development by ensuring legally sound and meaningful consultation with First Nations. The team works collaboratively with First Nations, ministry staff, and industry to strengthen relationships and provide expert advice on First Nations’ rights and interests.
The Role
As an Advisor, you will lead consultation engagements, provide professional advice, and work to establish productive relationships with First Nations in the region. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by optimizing consultation processes and supporting projects that align with both government objectives and Indigenous rights.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in a field directly related to the job function (e.g. Indigenous Studies, Natural Resource or Environmental Management, Land Use Planning, Land Use Management, Resource Economics) and a minimum of 2 years related experience, OR
- Technical Diploma in an area comparable to the above and a minimum of 2 years related experience, OR
- 5 years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
related experience includes a combination of the following:
- Experience working with and building collaborative relationships with First Nations or Indigenous communities, preferably in areas of natural resource or environmental management or land use stewardship.
- Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders, preferably in areas of natural resource or environmental management or land use stewardship
- Experience leading or supporting consultation, engagement, negotiations, developing and/or supporting agreements, preferably with First Nations.
- Experience participating in consultation, negotiation, or facilitation of sessions with First Nations preferably related to land use or natural resource management issues.
- Experience addressing divergent perspectives, negotiating or facilitating solutions or compromises to complex issues and resolving or mitigating conflict.
Preference may be given to candidates who have:
- Experience working with First Nations communities and facilitating First Nations consultations.
- Experience working with and building collaborative relationships with First Nations or Indigenous communities, preferably in areas of natural resource or environmental management or land use stewardship.
- Experience with conducting technical reviews to support statutory decision making.
- Experience working with BC government statutes, regulations, and policies.

About this Position:
There is one full time position available.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
