Job Summary
The Team
The Campbell River Natural Resource District is an established team of around 30 staff (both technical and professional) with expertise in forest and natural resource management. On this team, you will collaborate with senior managers and leaders both internal and external to government, including First Nations leaders and forest industry managers, to support economic development, reconciliation, and the stewardship of our natural resources. We value the diverse skills and commitment of our team, making a meaningful impact in our community and beyond.
The Role
The District Manager plays a leadership role in overseeing forest management operations within the district, leading a skilled team to deliver services that provide economic, cultural, environmental, and social benefits for all British Columbians. This position also involves engagement and reconciliation with Indigenous communities, and working closely with forestry licensees, stakeholders, and the public on natural resource management issues. It is an exciting time in the Ministry of Forests as we navigate change with a new incoming government and contribute to ongoing initiatives designed to enhance forest stewardship, collaborate with first nations and contribute to positive outcomes for communities within the Campbell River Natural Resource District and beyond.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, or a related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in natural resources management, including each of the following:
- Experience providing advice to senior executives.
- Experience in an operational management capacity with business and organizational planning accountabilities.
- Experience dealing with complex resource management issues that may significantly impact multiple parties.
- Experience developing processes, procedures and practices to support work team and/or business delivery.
- Experience leading and coaching diverse teams.
- Experience in financial and human resource management.
Provisos / Willingness statement(s):
- Must have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
- Frequent travel may be required.
