Job Summary
The Team
The Stewardship Team is an established team of four skilledprofessionals, a field technician, and a supervisor, all dedicated to ensuring sustainable forest management through monitoring of forest values and forest health, silviculturechecks, and compliance with Forest Stewardship Plans. Collaborating closely with teams in tenures, wildfire rehabilitation, and engineering, we focus on protecting and sustaining forest ecosystems while maintaining a vibrant forest industry.
The Role
As the Stewardship Forester, you’ll contribute to forest sustainability by managing contracts related to silviculture and forest health, ensuring compliance with Forest Stewardship Plans, and participating in the Timber Supply Review process. You’ll enjoy a balance of office and field work, with opportunities to be part of higher-level planning while traveling throughout the beautiful Columbia Mountains and Boundary area. This role offers meaningful work that supports healthy ecosystems, engaging with diverse communities, landscapes, and perspectives.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by Forest Professionals British Columbia, and a minimum of two (2) years’ of related experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience in a resource management related field may be considered.
- Registered member in good standing as a Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) or immediately eligible for registration with the Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current RPF membership from another Canadian jurisdiction to the FPBC within six (6) months of employment.
Applicants who do not meet the professional requirement may be considered at a lower level, subject to confirmation of eligibility for registration as Forester in Training (FIT) or Allied Forester in Training (ASFIT) immediately upon employment with the Ministry. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure eligibility.
Related experience must include the following:
- Experience organizing and managing complex initiatives.
- Experience working in natural resource management.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience in Silviculture contract administration, Forest Health Monitoring, Stewardship Activities (Forest Stewardship Planning, Timber Supply Review, Forest Range Evaluation and Ecosystem Restoration work).

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests offices: Grand Forks, Castlegar, Nelson, Nakusp or Revelstoke
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 1 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
