Job Summary
The Team
As a member of the Saanich Child and Youth Mental Health team, you will collaborate with a dynamic group of dedicated professionals. Our team includes skilled psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, and psychiatrists, all committed to enhancing the mental health of children and youth under 19. Together, we strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these children and their families, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. The Role
As a Senior Psychologist in South Vancouver Island, you will have a pivotal impact on improving child and youth mental health services by recruiting and mentoring future psychologists. This exciting opportunity allows you to shape the next generation of mental health professionals while continuing to advance critical mental health initiatives. Your contributions will not only enhance the training and development of current psychologists but also make a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth in the community.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Ph.D. in Clinical/Applied Psychology, Counselling Psychology, OR PsyD, AND registered with, or eligible for, registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia as a Psychologist.
- Note: If you are registered as a psychologist in another province, equivalencies for out of province applicants may be considered by the College of Psychologists of BC. Please contact the association for registration requirements in BC.
- Completion of a psychological pre- or post-doctoral internship of 1600 hours in a child and youth mental health or hospital setting with specialization in formal psychological assessment, diagnoses, and treatment of mental health disorders.
- Experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
- Minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Preference may be given to applicants with 2 years of experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as having an Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
- May be required to work evening/weekends.
- May be required to travel to remote locations.
- May be required to work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
