This position is within the market sector Hydropower & Dams of the Power Division. This market sector specializes in hydroelectric projects (development, rehabilitation), dam and hydraulic structures engineering, and dam safety. We work in collaboration with public and private sector clients on innovative projects that allow our team members to prove their expertise and to train a new generation of passionate people.

In order to meet these growth challenges, WSP is currently looking for a National Discipline Manager – Electrical to lead our Electrical team department for our Hydro & Dams market sector, located at any of our offices in Canada.

The Candidate(s) will work in the hydropower and dams market with multidisciplinary teams specialized in geotechnical, structural, hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical who work in constant and close collaboration. The electrical discipline includes low and medium voltage, electrical studies, command, protection and controls and SCADA.

The hydro and dams team is currently working on many large projects. From spillway refurbishments, new spillway design, spill capacity increase or Turbine-Generator Unit replacements, Powerhouse refurbishments and design of greenfield Powerhouse and Pumped Storage sites, we currently have exciting projects filled with technical challenges to overcome!

What you can expect to do here:

  • As part of the management team, you will be responsible for administrative, HR, and technical management tasks within the Electrical group, more specifically in the hydro and dams market.
  • You will supervise a team of more than 10 engineers and technicians spread across Canada.
  • You will oversee electrical work and provide guidance to engineers, technicians, and the drafting team and provide mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • You will participate in the growth of the business unit.
  • You will lead projects in electrical engineering in the hydro and dams market across Canada, including projects involving:
    • dams and hydroelectric facilities.
    • hydraulics structures.
  • You will lead design, studies, preparation of plans and specifications, calculation notes, and reports of electrical components in hydro and dams projects.
  • You will ensure quality control (quality assurance) of various project deliverables.
  • Tou will participate in the preparation of proposals and business development activities.
  • You will perform other related tasks that could enhance the execution of projects and technical development of the business unit.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • You have a Bachelor or a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent program.
  • You have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in engineering consulting, delivering technical and complex projects.
  • You have proven experience in team management and administration.
  • You have a relevant experience in electrical design on hydroelectric and dams facilities projects.
  • You have a designation as a registered professional engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province.
  • Sense of initiative, proactivity, resourcefulness, autonomy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to address challenging situations.
  • Highly professional with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A track record of promoting a strong corporate culture which encourages teamwork, collaboration, problem solving and high performance.
  • Multi-disciplinary versatility; leadership skills; and a dynamic, team-spirited, quality-oriented, and technical-excellence approach.
  • Bilingualism is an asset (French and English).
