Job Summary

The Team

At the Crown Contaminated Sites Program, you’ll join a high-performing, collaborative team of scientists and engineers dedicated to addressing high-risk contaminated sites. This established team, consisting of seven licensed professionals, a Crown land technologist, and a program manager, is passionate about protecting human health and the environment. You’ll work closely with environmental consulting firms, local First Nations, regulators, and other ministries, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise contribute to meaningful progress in contamination remediation. The Role

In this role, you’ll manage complex contracts and projects for multiple contaminated sites, contributing directly to protecting human health and the environment. Your days will involve collaborating with experts, First Nations, and regulators, preparing requests for services, reviewing reports and site liabilities, and making risk-based decisions grounded in science. With occasional fieldwork, you’ll gain hands-on experience at sites across the province. This opportunity offers exciting challenges associated with addressing sites in a portfolio of prioritized sites that includes award-winning projects like the Britannia Mine and the Atlin-Ruffner Mine remediation projects. Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in engineering, geoscience or agrology and three (3) years related experience; OR Bachelors degree in engineering, geoscience or agrology and five (5) years related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Full registration, or eligibility for full registration (within 6 months), with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Related experience must include:

  • Professional experience generally obtained post-registration, ideally in both private and public practice, as a Professional Engineer, Geoscientist or Agrologist in the area of contaminated site investigation, remediation and management.
  • Experience with managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, following accepted project management techniques.
  • Experience with issues management, negotiation, and strategic problem solving, and providing expertise, and advice in the implementation of solutions to industry clients, internal staff, other agencies, and management.
  • Experience providing advice, both written and verbal, to senior management.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Seven (7) years or more related experience.
  • Contract management experience.
  • Experience in a range of indigenous and stakeholder management, issues management and communications.

  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

Provisos

  • May be required to work under tight deadlines on sensitive or confidential issues.
  • Travel is required, including travelling to sites over difficult terrain.
  • Field work may require, at times, travel by boat or helicopter.
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the Ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
