Job Summary

The Team
This position is part of our established Forest Technologist Entry Level Program (FTELP) Leadership Team which has been fostering the growth of forestry professionals since 2016. You’ll be leading the operational and non-operational training aspects of the team, which consists of 12 forest technologist positions and four supervisory positions. Working alongside a larger group of up to 18 people, you’ll collaborate with various professionals from engineers to Indigenous relations staff across the ministry. Our team is focused on developing future leaders in forestry through a unique 2-year experiential learning program, and we pride ourselves on fostering innovation, collaboration, and a strong sense of community within the beautiful setting of Mackenzie. The Role
As a Forest Operations and Training Specialist, you’ll be responsible for designing projects, organizing training sessions, and providing expert advice to program participants. You’ll work closely with program staff to create learning opportunities and with business areas to align FTELP contributions with organizational goals. This position offers a unique chance to demonstrate leadership, share knowledge, and help shape the future of the program. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A diploma or degree in a natural resource field (i.e., forestry) and two (2) years of experience related to the planning and development of Timber Sale Licences, as well as experience in one (1) or more of the following disciplines: silviculture, timber harvesting, and engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants must be registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
  • Experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Experience in contract and/or project supervision.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Experience operating a variety of equipment including ATVs, snowmobiles and 4X4 trucks with up to 5 passengers.
  • Experience conducting field work, including travelling to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and overnight or extended stays in rough camp conditions.
  • Experience working in active forestry road construction sites, in rough terrain, around harvesting and transportation equipment, and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience with adult education.

This position can be based out of either of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
