Job Summary

The Team
Our Capital Management Branch (CMB) team consists of a vibrant and dedicated group of individuals from diverse backgrounds in project management, engineering, architecture, and business and facility management.You’ll work within an established, collaborative team that manages major, minor, and child care capital projects. Our efforts directly impact students and families across BC by providing essential capital funding to school districts to foster safe, inspiring, and sustainable learning environments. The dedication and hard work of our team make being part of CMB both fulfilling and rewarding.

The Role
As a planning officer, you will be the link between public K-12 school districts and the Ministry of Education and Child Care. You will help develop annual five-year capital plans and support projects through each stage to ensure they meet their goals, timelines, and budgets. The Capital Management Branch (CMB) helps school districts to provide safe and effective learning environments by prioritizing projects and funding school construction, upgrades, renovations, and maintenance.This role is rewarding, with a diverse range of daily tasks that keep the work engaging. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field such as Planning, Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering and a minimum of one (1) year recent (within the last five (5) years), related experience; OR
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in a related field such as Planning, Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering and a minimum of three (3) years recent (within the last five (5) years), related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be considered.

Recent (within the last five (5) years), related experience includes:

  • Managing and contributing to project teams.
  • Developing and preparing recommendations, project plans and/or reports for executives.
  • Creating and maintaining spreadsheets.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience reviewing business cases and project proposals for capital projects.
  • Experience working on capital projects.
  • Experience analyzing architectural/construction drawings.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available, this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is a temporary opportunity until 06/30/2025. A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
