Job Summary

The Team
The BC Prosecution Service Abbotsford Office is an established and close-knit team of about 45 staff, including Crown Counsel, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Senior Legal Analysts, and more. The team works well together, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment with regular team lunches and activities. As part of this team, you will contribute to the prosecution of criminal offences in BC, helping uphold justice while benefiting from a strong sense of camaraderie.

The Role
As a Legal Assistant with the BC Prosecution Service Abbotsford Office, you will play a key role in supporting Crown Counsel with case preparation for court proceedings. In this fast-paced, high-profile environment, you’ll work closely with a collaborative team, handling a variety of legal services that require flexibility, organization, and excellent communication. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent;
  • Successful completion of a recognized Legal Assistant certificate OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Administrative experience, including:
    • Office experience working in a confidential capacity;
    • Experience managing calendars, scheduling meetings and making travel arrangements;
    • Experience typing, drafting, formatting, proofreading and editing a variety of documents;
    • Experience developing and maintaining administrative systems, procedures and standards.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Successful completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal certificate or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of administrative experience.
  • At least 1 year of recent experience (within the last 3 years) working as a Legal Assistant in a legal office.
  • Recent experience (within the last 3 years) working for the BC Prosecution Service.
  • Experience working in the criminal justice sector.

This position is based out of the location listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
