This temporary full-time (35 hours per week) position is available starting November 18, 2024 to
January 17
, 2024. Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Shift days and times may extend or change depending on the Department’s operating needs. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be needed, evening shifts (12:00 pm – 7:30 pm) during peak periods or based on operations. The position is hiring at both the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses . (One Clerk per campus).

The Role
The Bookstore Clerk receives and processes all sales transactions with the use of a point of sale system, and maintains computer records of all transactions. The Bookstore Clerk merchandises and protects inventory and maintains a standard of excellence in customer service in the College Bookstore, while providing exceptional client-centered service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

Receives and processes all sales, refunds, in-house charges and sponsorship’s.
a. balances daily sales, compiles daily reports for Finance Department and prepares bank deposits;
b. decides on composition of and maintains cash floats; performs regular safe counts and prepares bank order documentation to ensure safe is adequately stocked with coin and cash denominations.
c. fills purchase orders, monitors bookstore e-mails for customer inquiries and sponsored student orders;
d. processes web orders and assists in the shipping of web orders and coordination of in store pickups
e. determines whether merchandise can be accepted for return and issues refunds or gives exchanges;
f. opens and closes Bookstore and balances sales for the day to receipts and produces an end of day summary report;
g. trains Bookstore auxiliary clerks and cashiers; oversees operations at the front of the store during peak periods
2. Maintains a variety of computer databases.
a. verifies student /employee record information in College database and in conjunction with the Finance Department, maintains records of internal charge account codes and parking pass activity;
b. performs a variety of word processing duties
3. Merchandises and protects inventory.
a. assists customers in locating and selecting items;
b. labels, stocks, organizes and merchandises inventory;
c. monitors inventory levels and advises buyers of low levels;
d. maintains a general awareness of surroundings for security purposes;
e. conducts periodic physical inventory and annual inventory using a computerized
inventory/sales system;
f. assists with the inventory control for all retail inventory; maintains computer records, monitors prices, updates shelf tags and customer information;
g. generates the transfer of books and general merchandise to and from NW and DL Bookstores including the processing of required documents.
4. Performs other related duties as required.
a. assists with the selections, orderings, receiving, merchandising, and returning of general books for sale with the Bookstore computer system;
b. assists with receiving of general merchandise and trade books in the inventory control system
c. sorts and distributes bookstore mail and email
d. supports cashiers up front
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
Minimum of two years retail experience or one years of experience in a post-secondary institutional Bookstore retail environment or equivalent combination of experience in a related field.

Excellent working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).

Excellent interpersonal skills with proven experience in dealing with diverse populations as well as demonstrated conflict resolutions skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate courteously, assertively and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public with a strong emphasis on customer service. Proficiency on Customer Service Concepts.

Demonstrated Data Entry at a Beginners Level. Demonstrated ability to keyboard 40 w.p.m. accurately with experience and knowledge of PC software including MS Office, Excel, Word and Access and operate multiple category point of sale registers.

Demonstrated working knowledge of computerized inventory control systems, purchasing principles and methods, supply management and end of day cash balancing and deposits.

Familiarity with best practices in Web content and updates as well as internet applications.

Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.

Demonstrated ability to work standing up for extended periods of time together with an ability to handle weighty materials.

Proven ability to work independently with a minimum of direct supervision including establishing priorities, achieving deadlines and functioning well under pressure.
