Your Mission

The Controller position is accountable for the general accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls, budgets, and forecasts designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with US GAAP.

The role also includes responsibility for day-to-day finance operations including oversight of payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and customer order management (the “order book”).

This is an in-office role, based in SKYTRAC’s head office in Kelowna, BC. Occasional travel may be required to support the management of a geographically distributed team. Flexibility to standard working hours may be required to support relevant reporting deadlines.

A day in the life:

Financial Reporting

    •Maintain the chart of accounts to support effective reporting and analysis. •Issue timely and complete weekly and monthly financial reports and financial statements, including variance analysis and commentary to senior leadership. •Calculate and assess financial and operating metrics, working with the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis to create insightful dashboards and reporting to equip senior leadership and department heads with relevant KPIs. •Assist the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis in the production of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.

Financial Operations and Processes

    •Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures including work instructions. •Identity gaps within the current accounting processes including opportunities to optimize the current ERP and provide a framework for execution of improvements. Maintain a continuous improvement plan for all processes. •Ensure the accuracy and timely delivery of customer billing across all revenue streams (hardware orders, ongoing services and subscription-based revenue). •Ensure effective change management of key change initiatives to meet the company’s strategies. •Research and identify appropriate tools and methodologies to aid in the creation of a world-class finance organization, with a focus on automation and scalability to support the organization’s rapid growth. •Support the VP, Finance & Administration in the design and execution of effective processes and reporting on the company’s order book and customer financial metrics, enabling the sales/inventory planning process and working capital optimization.

Finance Team Leadership and Development

    •Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives. •Mentorship of finance team members to support ongoing learning and development.

Taxation and Treasury Management

    •Comply with local, provincial, federal, and international government reporting requirements and tax filings for GST, PST, VAT, etc. •Oversee the preparation of corporate income tax returns, including preparation SR&ED incentive claims. •Oversee the preparation of reports to other external funding agencies/programs (e.g. IRAP) to ensure the timely receipt of funding and compliance with regulations. •Proactively manage and report on cash position, including cash forecasts, working with parent organization treasury team to ensure effective working capital levels.

Requirements:

Candidate Must Have’s

    •5 years of corporate accounting experience, with 2 years of post-designation financial leadership experience •Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or similar field •Canadian CPA designation •Experience working in a high transaction volume environment, including the design/development of automated/scalable process to support growth •Familiarity with the structure/operation of ERP platforms and multi-dimensional chart of accounts structures

This will make you stand out:

    •CPA designation obtained through audit/public practice career path •Experience with the Microsoft Dynamics suite of ERP software •Additional post-secondary education (e.g. MBA, executive certificate programs, etc.) or other relevant training/education to support the coaching/development of members of the finance team •Training/experience in project management or continuous improvement methodologies to support delivery and tracking of organizational projects •Experience working in multi-entity multinational corporate structures

The salary range for this role is $100,000 – $125,000 CAD. The range posted is a guide and may not represent the compensation offered to the successful candidate. Compensation is based on the skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications brought to the role.
