Job Summary

The Team:

The Thompson Okanagan Water Allocation Team is a collaborative group of professionals dedicated to managing British Columbia’s water resources responsibly and sustainably. With team members spread across several locations including Merritt, Kamloops, Vernon, and Penticton, each smaller team is led by a Senior Water Authorizations Specialist and supported by Water Authorization Specialists. The team works closely with internal and external partners, including federal and local governments, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders, to ensure informed, evidence-based water management decisions. As an established team with a strong foundation, they offer a supportive environment for professionals passionate about water stewardship and sustainable resource management.

The Role

The Authorization Technician plays a key role in supporting water management by providing technical evaluation and advisory services, ensuring the optimal use of natural resources while minimizing impacts on other values. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a strong technical background in natural resource management who are eager to contribute to important decisions that benefit both the environment and the public. Qualifications

Education & Experience:
• Diploma or higher in the natural resource field, or a combination of education and experience in the natural resource management field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in natural resource management.

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
• Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes (i.e. Water Sustainability Act) that support natural resource management of groundwater or surface water.
• Recent (within the last 5 years) experience in BC with water allocation.

These positions can be worked from the following communities: Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton or Merritt.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and/or permanent opportunities.
