Provincial Position and the candidate must be within the vicinity of a regional BC Cancer Centre to work.

Reporting to the Senior Executive Director (SED), Medical Affairs, the Provincial Medical Director (PMD), Medical Affairs Administration, in partnership and collaboration with clinical teams, BC Cancer Executive leadership, and the BC Cancer Medical Affairs Administration team is responsible for the Privileging and Credentialing of BC Cancer Medical Staff, managing the Special Education Research Program (SERP) in conjunction with the Executive Director (ED) of Medical Affairs Administration, and managing medical staff human health resource planning. The PMD will provide leadership in ensuring that staff remain compliant with the PHSA medical staff rules and bylaws, will support reporting requirements from medical staff, including hours reporting, and will support development of policies/procedures for medical staff pertaining to the medical affairs administration portfolio.

The incumbent collaborates with the ED of Medical Affairs Administration and participates in contract negotiations and management process for service contracted members of medical staff. The PMD may also provide leadership around enhanced physician support. The PMD makes decisions that have broad implications and complexity, ensuring effective engagement with both internal and external partners. The PMD plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative environment that promotes active communication, joint decision-making, and strategic alignment across the portfolio, alongside BC Cancer Clinical Operations and across other BC Cancer portfolios.

The PMD, Medical Affairs Administration, in partnership and collaboration with clinical team and BC Cancer Executive leadership, will provide those administrative services reasonably required to fulfill the duties, including the following:

Accountabilities:

  • Provides administrative leadership to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, practice standards, medical staff by-laws and Rules.
  • In conjunction with the ED, Medical Affairs Administration, collaborates with the PHSA Medical Affairs Administration office to ensure that the credentials of physicians are monitored as required by policy/by-laws and medical staff rules. In conjunction with the ED, Medical Affairs Administration Reporting to the SED of Medical Affairs and Quality.
  • In conjunction in with the ED, Medical Affairs Administration, collaborates with the PHSA Physician Compensation Office, negotiates contracts with physician service providers.
  • In conjunction with the ED, monitors physician leave applications and approves Special Education Research Program (SERP) applications.
  • Participates as part PHSA’s Physician Leadership Committees in matters relating to physician compensation and administrative matters.
  • In conjunction with ED, Medical Affairs Administration, SED Medical Affairs BC Cancer, and PHSA, develops and promotes physician leaders educational plan, physician leaders’ succession plan and physician leader’s evaluation plan.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, Medical Affairs, Senior Executive Medical Directors, and the Senior Executive Director, Operations, participates in policy development, priority setting, strategic planning and resource allocation for clinical programs and related medical services, ensuring consistency, equity and standardization in medical service delivery across programs at BC Cancer and the PHSA.
  • Participates in capital and operational budget planning for BC Cancer.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience providing cancer-related care
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role
