Job Summary

The Team:
The South Area Pricing and Tenures Team is a diverse and experienced group of forest professionals, including Registered Professional Foresters, Registered Forest Technologists, and Licensed Scalers. The team is well-established, consisting of both a pricing section and a tenures section, each with their own leadership. Working in this team offers the chance to collaborate with a wide range of specialists, all dedicated to ensuring accuracy in timber pricing, measurement, and policy implementation while fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

The Role:
As the Timber Pricing Coordinator, you are responsible for determining stumpage rates, conducting post-harvest reviews and audits, and serving as a timber pricing expert, providing guidance to licensees, Ministry of Forests’ district, region, and branch staff, as well as executives. Your work ensures the province meets revenue requirements in a fair and systematic way, directly contributing to Crown revenue. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Registered as a Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), or able to immediately transfer a current membership to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants currently registered with FPBC as an ASFIT or FIT (or able to transfer their current ASFIT/FIT membership to FPBC within six (6) months) may be considered for this position at the Licensed Science Officer 1B level. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or other directly related discipline as recognized by FPBC.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary groups and projects in natural resource management.
  • Experience identifying linkages in issue, determining cause and effect and providing sound advice to statutory decision makers.
  • Experience in consulting with partners and stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Experience managing concurrent and complex priorities to produce results within restrictive timeframes.

Preference may be given for one (1) or more of the following:

  • One (1) or more years of experience leading, supervising and coaching technical and/or professional staff in resource management.
  • At least three (3) years of current appraisals, timber pricing policy and procedures experience.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary groups and projects in natural resource management.
  • Experience working with staff, public and other resource partners and stakeholders for the purpose of achieving an organizational goal or objective.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in one of the following locations: 100 Mile House, Castlegar, Clearwater, Cranbrook, Grand Forks, Kamloops, Kelowna, Merritt, Nelson, Quesnel, Vernon, or Williams Lake.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
