Position Summary

Reporting to the Health Service Administrator, the Site Manager is responsible and accountable for the management of service delivery, buildings and personnel at Masset Hospital (Northern Haida Gwaii Health Center and Hospital). The Site Manager provides leadership in the planning, integration, delivery and evaluation of local programs and services within a context of a regional system of delivery.

Starting salary will be approximately from $146,529 to $159,875 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre provides medical service to Old Masset, Port Clements and surrounding areas. The hospital and health centre has 4 Acute Care beds, 1 Palliative Care bed, 4 Long-term Care beds and a 4 unit assisted living complex. Some services provided at the hospital:
• Emergency
• Laboratory
• Diagnostic Imaging
• Pharmacy
• Chronic Disease Management
• Physiotherapy
• Speech and Language therapy
• Mental Health and Substance Use service
• Home and Community Care and Home Support services
• Visiting specialists in Pediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Respirology, Rheumatology, Urology and Ophthalmology
• Video conferencing capabilities with specialists or physicians in other areas Public Health provides many services to the community. Some of these services include:
• Harm reduction services
• TB testing
• Prenatal services with pregnancy registry
• Kindergarten screening and school immunizations
• Birth control, pap tests, STI testing

Masset is situated along the shoreline of Masset Sound on Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, and is the largest village on the island. Major industries are logging, fishing and tourism. Masset provides services for a larger rural area with a population of 1,000 local residents and services a surrounding area of 2,300 including Tow Hill (unincorporated) and Old Masset (IR). incorporated in 1961, the Village of Masset (pop. 1,000) is the oldest of the island’s municipalities. The community has one elementary school and one secondary school. Check out Masset , the place where the ocean meets the shore and the sunsets are breathtaking.

Qualfications
• Baccalaureate degree in health sciences fields.
• Minimum of three (3) years in a management position in health care.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to build a team from professional and non professional staff with diverse disciplines and skill levels, focused on delivering timely, appropriate quality health care for a remote BC site.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff of all disciplines.
• Experience as a leader, a teacher and a counselor with excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in collaboration with other professionals and the community to achieve stated goals and objectives.
• Ability to identify potential problem solving processes that work with current systems and staff, to seek resolutions that are patient centered.
• Ability to problem solve in an organized fashion, which includes identifying, analyzing and recommending solutions with appropriate action.
• Ability to conceptualize and implement innovative programs.
• Familiarity with BC unions and current workplace health and safety standards.
• Working knowledge of infection control policies and procedures.
• Ability to facilitate positive change and relationships.
• Ability to make decisions involving application of judgment, discretion and tact.
• Ability to manage and prioritize resources with experience in budget processes and planning.
