The Business Improvement Analyst, Co-op will have the opportunity of conducting frontline business process change, analysis, diagnostics, statistical, and economic modelling. Primarily responsible for the execution of Teck’s BI Autonomy improvement initiatives to achieve clearly proven and sustainable business value across all our operations. Experience in this role will set you up for success for future opportunities within the company. Success will require a blend of analytical and interpersonal skills. We are specifically looking for an individual with outstanding analytical skills to tackle large and ambiguous business problems, and superb interpersonal skills to develop novel solutions for teams across the business.

Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based).You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Salary Range: $3900 – $4900 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Be the primary source of reliable data and rock-solid analysis, providing the fact base the Teck’s BI Autonomy team uses to make decisions in real time.
  • Provide rigour and accuracy to the improvement effort. As the chief source of insight based on the data, facilitate the prioritization of improvement opportunities, and use root cause analysis to help resolve day-to-day issues with implementation.
  • Build performance tracking dashboards using tools like Excel and PowerBI.
  • Develop implementation plans for a range of initiatives that have strong support and agreement from important collaborators, in line with Teck’s strategic pipeline.
  • Measure the impact of your improvement initiatives on Key Performance Indicators, adoption by end users, and alignment to schedule and cost to monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with teams to proactively identify risks, issues and/or opportunities to ensure the maximum business value delivered.
  • Collaborate with site counterparts, sharing your skills and building relationships across Teck’s operations, using your network to ensure improvement plans are firmly based on the real-world your clients operate in.
  • Act as a core resource in ranging exercises, predictive analytics, performance reporting, economic modelling, and value chain mapping to help Teck leaders make data driven decisions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain business analytics solutions and reporting tools to transform data into valuable insights and drive informed decision-making. Create performance tracking dashboards and sophisticated / predictive analytics using tools like Monte Carlo, Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python, Azure Databricks, etc.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering (Mining preference, Geological, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, and others encouraged as well), Business Administration / Commerce (Operations & Logistics), Economics, Statistics, Computer Science
  • Fluency in Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding and interest in mining industry fundamentals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables), Power Point, Word and PowerBI.
  • Experience in the deployment of Continuous Improvement Programs within mining industry would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in programming is an asset: Python, SQL, and VBA for Excel
  • Able to work effectively independently as well as part of the team.
  • Comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings
  • Anticipated travel requirement is up to 40%.
  • Communication: excellent at articulating points, and effectively delivering a message.
