Job Summary

The Team
The Forest Landscape Planning team is a new and collaborative group based in the Kootenay-Boundary region, focused on improving how BC’s forests are stewarded. As a Team Lead, you will supervise one staff member and work closely with First Nations, forest licensees and other stakeholders, fostering partnerships that are key to sustainable forest management. The Role
In this role, you’ll lead forest landscape planning (FLP) for the Cranbrook area, supervise one staff member, and build strong partnerships with First Nations to foster sustainable forest management. Working in consultation and collaboration with Indigenous Governing Bodies, Forest Landscape Planning (FLP) seeks to address the challenges of climate change and the cumulative impacts of natural and human disturbance on the land by developing direction to manage for ecosystem health and resiliency, while reflecting local community values. Your work will promote deeper engagement and greater transparency with FLP partners, shaping the future of forest stewardship in BC. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of changes to BC’s forest management regime, replacing forest stewardship plans and ensuring that forest landscape planning reflects the rights and self-determination of First Nations. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in regulatory management in the applicable natural resource field within British Columbia or similar jurisdictions
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in collaboratively working with indigenous groups or governments in advancing multi-faceted initiatives

Preference may be given to those with one or more of the following:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in negotiating and mediating solutions with partners in natural resource management.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing technical and/or professional staff in resource management or infrastructure development.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supervising, leading coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (eg., sub project) of a major project or regional initiative.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
