Work Arrangements
Classroom teaching will occur on the Coquitlam Campus and clinical practice courses can occur at any agency within the Lower Mainland.

The Role
The Mental Health and Personal Support Work Department in the Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications for contract faculty to teach in the Mental Health and Substance Use Work ( MHSU ) Program.

Responsibilities

You will instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in College courses.

You will plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintain quality learner-centered instruction.

Qualification:

Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provincial registration) full registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives with undergraduate degree in Nursing or health related field, Master’s degree preferred.

    •Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references).

    •Recent teaching experience in clinical, classroom and/or laboratory settings in a Mental Health or nursing related program or equivalent.
    •Three or more years (1 year =1400 hours) of full-time Canadian nursing experience working with clients with mental health challenges (other than dementia) in a setting that utilizes a PSR approach. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    •Faculty must possess relevant knowledge of the Canadian mental health care system, including the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members, specifically the role of the CMHW / MHSU , and current policies and procedures within mental health settings that utilize a PSR approach.
    •Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility.
    •Curriculum development/ maintenance experience/ expertise.
    •Effective interpersonal skills, initiative, and creativity.
    •Self-directedness, strong work ethic and excellent writing ability.
    •Ability to collaborate and contribute effectively to team activities.
    •Satisfactory current references.
