Job Summary

The Team
The Digital Workplace and Collaboration Services Branch (DWCS) is an established team of 90 dedicated professionals responsible for implementing high-quality tools to support a modern digital workplace. By delivering employee-ready tools and supports, DWCS enables and empowers all B.C. Public Service employees to deliver services to the citizens of B.C. DWCS is focused on providing simple, accessible, and approachable solutions to employees; by delivering the information and resources they need to access and use digital tools and services.

Part of the DWCS team includes the Digital Workplace Planning and Design (DWPD) unit that is responsible for the planning and design of the roll-out for new and/or updated productivity tools to help BC Public Service (BCPS) employees work more efficiently and effectively. The team is currently focused on enabling Microsoft Power Platform as a service, and the future implementation planning for Microsoft Purview for the BCPS. Their ongoing dedication to supporting and enabling effective cloud application infrastructure is highly valued and essential to the support of a modern digital workplace.

The Role
The Data Architect is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of data administration structures, models, and integration frameworks to support the BC Public Service (BCPS) and several broader public sector organization’s use of Microsoft 365 tools, such as Purview, SharePoint, Teams, and Power Platform. The Data Architect role develops scalable solutions to handle large volumes of data, streamline collaboration, and enhance data accessibility while aligning with business objectives and Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. Candidates will find this position exciting as it allows them to blend their expertise in data modeling and cloud architecture, to support a cross-divisional project team working to implement Microsoft cloud applications.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer science related field and two (2) years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in a computer science related field and three (3) years related experience, OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a computer science related field and four (4) years related experience; OR
  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience.

Related experience includes all of the following:

    • Experience in data modelling and/or business area analysis techniques.
    • Experience in programming, scripting, automation, and customization initiatives.

Preference may be given to individuals with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience implementing and/or managing Microsoft Purview for a large enterprise environment.
  • One (1) or more years experience working in an agile methodology environment focused on the planning, design, testing and implementation of digital products and/or services.

WILLINGNESS STATEMENT

  • Must be flexible with working hours, hours of work vary depending on operational demands
  • Must be willing to work overtime and/or be placed on standby 24/7 with limited notice year-round, including on weekends, evenings, nights and holidays, as needed.
