Job Summary

The Team
The Port Hardy Child Protection Generalist Team is a dedicated group consisting of four Child Protection Workers, two Child and Youth Family Support Workers, a Social Program Officer Assistant, and a Team Leader. Passionate about making a difference, they work to protect and support children and families by reconnecting them to family and culture while creating safe home environments. This established and supportive team collaborates closely together and with other Ministry colleagues, community partners and local Indigenous Nations to ensure culturally sensitive, community-focused care.

The Role
This Social Program Officer Assistant role is a hands-on opportunity, where you’ll assist Child Protection Workers and office team members with diverse tasks such as transportation, supervision, document preparation, providing resource information, and more, depending on the needs of the team. You will play a key role in helping to reunite children with their families and provide safety and support during challenging times. This entry-level position offers a chance to start a career in social services, and to make a meaningful impact on the lives of local members of your community.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary School Graduation or Equivalent AND one of the following:
    • 2 years of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 1 year or more of related work experience; OR
    • 1 year of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 2 years or more of related work experience; OR
    • Minimum of 3 years or more of related work experience.
    • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience using the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case Management (ICM) and/or Management Information Systems (MIS) computer systems.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
