Job Summary

The Team

As part of the well-established Smithers Community Corrections team, you’ll join a close-knit group of eight, including probation officers and a local manager. This team is committed to public safety, reducing crime, and supporting positive change for clients. We value collaboration and high morale, with a strong emphasis on helping each other. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of our operations, supporting both our team and the wider community with dedication and care.

The Role

In this front-facing role, you’ll greet clients, answer phone calls, manage data entry, and maintain essential office functions like ordering supplies and scheduling vehicle maintenance. Your work will ensure a smooth and pleasant experience for those we serve, contributing to the efficiency of our public safety office. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the criminal justice system while working with a supportive and collaborative team.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (e.g. GED) and minimum three (3) years of related experience (e.g. clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support) in an office environment. An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be considered.
  • Minimum keyboarding speed of 30 words per minute (WPM).
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Preference statement(s)

  • Experience working with individuals who are adversarial and/or persons who face multiple barriers.
  • Experience performing financial duties.
  • Experience using a records classification system (such as ARCS/ORCS)

This is a temporary opportunity until April 05, 2025.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
