Job Summary
The Team
The Children and Youth with Support Needs team (CYSN) is a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive group focused on making a positive impact on families with children and youth who have complex needs and diverse abilities. This established team consists of 3 – 4 CYSN workers and a Social Program Officer (SPO) Assistant, working closely with other professionals like Child Protection, School Districts, and Autism Support Teams. The team is passionate about creatively supporting families and always approaches their work with flexibility, compassion, and a commitment to continuous learning. The Role
As a Social Program Officer (SPO) Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting CYSN workers by assisting with multidisciplinary meetings, Integrated Case Management meetings, and the intake process. You will also handle referrals and respite contracts as needed. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a diverse population, collaborate with community partners, and contribute to creative planning that helps families assist children and youth with support needs. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary School Graduation or Equivalent AND one of the following:
- 2 years of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 1 year or more of related work experience; OR
- 1 year of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 2 years or more of related work experience; OR
- Minimum of 3 years or more of related work experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Three (3) or more months of experience working in a Children and Youth with Support Needs program area.
- Experience using the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case Management (ICM) and/or Management Information Systems (MIS) computer systems.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
There are two (2) full time temporary opportunities available to March 31, 2025.
- One (1) temporary opportunity based in Penticton
- One (1) temporary opportunity that can based in Grand Forks, Nelson, Trail, Castlegar or Nakusp
These temporary opportunities may be extended or may become permanent. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
