As a geotechnical professional based in one of our strategic northern offices, you will interact closely with important stakeholders in northern settings, including engagement with First Nations partners, natural and renewable resource investors, and with government authorities committed to energy and infrastructure upgrades.
Terrace BC is located in the heart of Northwestern BC and is a rapidly expanding city given its close proximity to three deep water ports (Kitimat, Prince Rupert, and Stewart), rail, and airport which offers daily direct flights to Prince George, Calgary, and Vancouver. The temperate coastal climate provides warm summers and mild winters while experiencing half of the average rainfall found on the coast. Terrace is uniquely located to provide year-round ocean to mountaintop recreational activities, including world-renowned river and ocean fishing from Spring to Fall and legendary resort and backcountry skiing in the winter. Family friendly recreation opportunities are easily accessible and include walking, biking, and hiking trails throughout the community and surrounding area. Terrace’s WSP office is located in the centre of town and within walking and biking distance of most of the city.
The Opportunity:
WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team based in Terrace, BC. You will join our highly successful team, using your skills to assist in the management and execution of various high-profile and critical projects throughout BC and Yukon.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with engineering staff on geotechnical consulting projects;
- Share technical knowledge across geographical boundaries to foster innovative project solutions;
- Lead and prepare geotechnical studies and engineering reports providing recommendations on various geotechnical aspects in projects, based on studies and project-specific work;
- Provide geotechnical engineering expertise to support multi-disciplinary projects such as highways, bridges, buildings, dams, industrial infrastructure, tunneling, etc.;
- Develop and lead projects requiring geotechnical investigation programs, prepare bidding documents, solicit bids, evaluate subcontractor submissions and support project engineers as part of their mandate;
- Assess and evaluate geotechnical issues encountered, such as: settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, interstitial overpressure development, preferential flow, frost heave, excavation and backfilling procedures, etc.;
- Be an accomplished and critical reviewer of engineering work, to support and guide developing engineers in their careers; and
- You may be required to perform other tasks as part of your role in the team.
We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- A degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university;
- Registered, or eligible to be registered, as a professional geotechnical engineer (PEng) with EGBC;
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience as a Geotechnical Engineer, Geological Engineer, or related position;
- Sense of initiative and be self-directed;
- Strong track record of managing and completing projects on time and on budget;
- Ability to perform critical evaluation of outputs for geotechnical analyses.
Compensation
Expected Salary (British Columbia): $132 700 – $182 500
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
