Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist/Regional Professional Practice Leader (and with work direction from the Planning Module Leader as appropriate) the Resource Therapist provides radiation services and direct patient care and acts as a clinical resource to staff in the module. The Resource Therapist may also assist the Chief Radiation Therapist/Regional Professional Practice Leader with administrative activities of the assigned module. The Resource Therapist works in collaboration with the Radiation Therapist – Education, Practice and Development and the Provincial Professional Practice and Academic Leader to ensure professional practice, processes and standards of care are maintained.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1. Provides radiation services and direct patient care in accordance with professional qualifications and the standards of practice for radiation therapy..

2. Assists the Chief Radiation Therapist/Regional Professional Practice Leader (CRT/RPPL) (and Planning Module Leader) with provision of leadership to assigned staff by performing duties such as promoting team building, mentoring and coaching staff.

3. Facilitates and supports Radiation Therapists to reach resolution/consensus by being a knowledge and skill resource for clinical or procedural issues within the module or, in the absence of a facilitated resolution, makes decisions.

4. Participates as a member of the care team by communicating with all team members (other radiation therapists, nursing and support staff, oncologists and physics staff) to provide continuity of care.

5. Ensures staffing resources meet operational requirements by performing duties such as monitoring workload levels and daily staffing coverage.
6. Promotes clinical research activities by participating in and by performing duties such as encouraging Radiation Therapists to participate in critical inquiry into radiation therapy practice.

7. Participates in the performance management process for Radiation Therapists within the assigned module by assessing performance and providing input on performance to the Chief Radiation Therapist/Regional Professional Practice Leader.

8. Collaborates with the Radiation Therapists – Education, Practice and Development and the Chief Radiation Therapist/Regional Professional Practice Leader to support new staff orientation to the Centre as well as to the Module by duties such as providing clinical guidance, as required, based on the specific orientation plan as well as by being a knowledge and skill resource to the Radiation Therapist.

9. Participates in clinical instruction of Radiation Therapy students, by performing duties such as providing input into the clinical competency assessment.

10. Maintains current knowledge of Radiation Therapy to contribute to the improvement of patient care by performing duties such as reviewing relevant literature, attending lectures and courses as required and approved.

11. Participates in, supports and promotes, the development and implementation of professional practice standards for Radiation Therapists by performing duties such as providing input to members of the Professional Practice Council; participating in the implementation of new technology or identifying needs for procedural or process changes in the module.

12. Provides a safe environment for patients/families and staff by performing duties such as reviewing staff adherence to safety policies and standards and emergency procedures and taking corrective action, as required.

13. Participates in the Quality Assurance activities for the Module by performing assigned duties such as conducting and reviewing audits of process and functions related to the module; reviewing incident and staff injury reports and recommending remedial action to the appropriate Module Leader.

14. Prepares a variety of reports including workload and statistical reports for the module by performing duties such as compiling data and summarizing information for review by the Chief Radiation Therapist/RPPL or Planning Module Leader.

15. Monitors availability of required equipment and inventory for assigned area by performing duties such as assessing needs and making recommendations to the Director of Clinical Operations, Radiation Program or designate.

16. Performs other related duties, as required.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience
• Completion of a recognized degree program in Radiation Therapy supplemented with additional education specific to Radiation Therapy such as a specialty certificate or an equivalent combination of education.
• One (1) years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Five (5) years recent related clinical experience in Radiation Therapy
• Canadian Association for Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Certified.
