Our client is a successful, ambitious, and innovative technology company headquartered in Greater Vancouver. The company is at “mature start-up” phase and is hiring for top talent to help them develop to the next step in the company’s journey. Recurring revenue SAAS model, with multi-year contracts. The organization has diverse clients… of various sizes, in lots of different sectors, across North America and beyond. The company has won various awards/accolades and is very values-based with a loyal customer following.

What- the Role:
Our client seeking a new Director of Sales. This role has been newly created due to the company’s growth. The new Director will lead a sales team of 8 and will collaborate closely with the senior leadership team (including operations, marketing, finance, etc.). The company already has sales processes, KPIs, metrics, and systems in place, but the Director of Sales will continue to expand, improve, and innovate- there is a lot more to be done!
This is a very well-rounded and fulfilling role. The Director will look at and perhaps rejig existing sales portfolios on the team and will spearhead sales analysis (SWOT, new geographies, new verticals, market trends, competitor research). Sales operations is also a key part of the role- generally managing the day-to-day of the busy sales team, including sales forecasting, budgeting, and reporting. SWIM will provide interested candidates with a thorough job description.

Who- the Candidate:
We are looking for an individual with at least 7 years and ideally 10 years of progressive B2B sales experience, including at least 4 years directly leading and mentoring a sales team (minimum 3 direct reports, ideally 8).
Experience in the technology sector is a requirement. Experience with a recurring revenue SAAS model is highly preferred, almost required. The more variety in customer base the better- this Director will be selling to customers in financial services, retail, CPG, technology, natural resources, etc.!
Qualified candidates will have worked with past/current employers during significant periods of change and growth– i.e. exponential increase in revenues such as scaling up from $10M to $50M, working with a company during a significant acquisition, selling for a company doing a new product roll-out or expanding into a new country or strategically exploring an entirely new customer vertical.
We are looking for someone who can concurrently SELL and LEAD. We’re not looking for a lone wolf solo operator- this new Sales Director needs to be someone who can land a major new customer the same week that they are conducting 1x1s with their team, performance managing, and training a new hire.
The work experience is of course important, but even more crucial are the soft skills! Some personality adjectives that come to mind to describe our ideal Sales Leader include… entrepreneurial, innovative, self-motivated, inspiring, communicative, collaborative, flexible, open-minded, excellent listener, adept negotiator, visionary, hungry, passionate, strategic, ethical, values-based, fun-loving, and friendly. The new Sales Director will be someone who is pumped to work with a bunch of folks who also embody the aforementioned character traits!

How Much:
Let’s talk turkey! Year 1 compensation will depend on what the Director of Sales can bring to the table from the get-go. Base salary will likely be in the range of $115,000 to $155,000, calibrating salary based on agreed-upon commission plan in Year 1. The company would love to see their new Director of Sales earning around $250,000 in 2025! Total compensation in-line with hitting sales goals, revenue targets, team performance and retention, etc. In addition, the Director of Sales will receive a competitive health benefits plan, generous amount of paid time off (and some work remote flexibility), an L&D budget, etc.

Where:
HYBRID. The company is headquartered in Vancouver. There will be business travel on around a quarterly basis (mostly within North America- for conferences, trade shows, conventions, leadership summits, etc.)
